Bikers Rights Issues
Legislative Update
3/29/04
Hello
everyone,
Good news!
All our bills are perking right along.
Both SJR50(MC safety awareness) & HB2697(headlights) have passed their
respective Senate
committees and will be scheduled for the Senate floor.
Today, SB1539, the Motorcyclists Matter bill passed the House Public Safety
committee.
The committee substitute version of the bill will provide for a $1000.00
fine but no suspension.
It is truely a motorcycle bill as only people who kill or seriously injure
a motorcyclist will be affected by the fine.
This bill very nearly died.
Please contact Rep. James Covey, who just happens to be an ABATE member,
Rep.
Lucky Lamons, and Sen. Sam Helton and thank them for their hard work.
They saved this bill and have gotten it this far.
Reps. Covey and Lamons can be contacted at 405-521-2711.
Sen. Helton can be contacted at 405-524-0126.
Also, please contact your own Representative and ask him or her to vote
yes on SB1539.
Have a great Monday, and I'll keep you posted on new developments.
