Bikers Rights Issues

ABATE of Colorado

Attendees at the Best of the West in Denver last June may remember the
announcement that Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell had introduced S. Res.
168 "Designating May 2004 as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month".
Senator Campbell's goal is to have this resolution passed in the Senate for the
next three years then move it as a joint resolution, at which time (if it
passes) it would be signed into permanent law.

In order for a resolution to pass, about 20 members from each side of the
aisle would need to sign on. So far, the only other sponsor is Senator
Wayne Allard, also from Colorado. Senator Campbell's Legislative Director
Larry Vigil contacted the ABATE of Colorado office and expressed his concern
that we're going to lose this resolution due to an apparent lack of interest.

Senator Campbell has been a champion of motorcycle rights for many years.

Notable efforts include, but certainly are not limited to, conference
language prohibiting health care insurance discrimination for motorcyclists
(1996 HIPAA) and a letter of concern to NHTSA.

We are asking motorcyclists nationwide to contact their US Senators and ask
them to co-sponsor Senator Campbell's S. Res. 168. POC: Larry Vigil at
