I figured I would make Sturgis first! I was enjoying the ride and light show as I rode as I got closer the more the light show intensified. I was kind of looking for a dry place as I went just in case. I was about 70 miles from Sturgis when it started to sprinkle and I twisted the wick a bit harder looking for a dry spot. I don't like riding after dark I really don't in the rain! well about a two miles after I broke 85 I saw blue lights in my rear veiw mirror and though oh shit! I had seen a sign for a senic turn out and though it might have cover there when I saw the blue lights I signaled to pull over so the trooper would know I was not running! I went almost a mile before I realized there was no cover at the turnout! so I just pulled over and shut the bike off! I put my hands in the air do he could see them! and waited for him to come up! when he got there he said I was going pretty fast and I said yes Sir but was looking for dry spot and though might be one at turnout! he said no I aks him how far to dry place he said 6 more miles! Shit then he said just slow down ok! I was shocked he was letting me go with a slow down! Not all cops in SD are bad! I Said yes Sir and ment it! I took off in the rain and was riding at about 65 looking for the 101 well I had gone about a mile in the left lane when all the sudden I was riding on the left shoulder! a cross wind had pushed me all the way across two lanes! I managed to not go off the shoulder and slowed down to around 45 so I could get back in the right lane! |
I went about a 1/4 mile and that wind took me across to the other shoulder once again! I recovered again and slowed to about 35 this time because the wind was blowing so hard I could not see nor could I hold the bike in the right lane more than a few min at a time! I finally saw the break in the white line for an exit! I made my way up the exit and stopped at the top I could see light to the left and headed that way! once I turned to the south I could sort of see again. I crossed over the interstate and turned into the parking lot of the store/gift shop/ gas station there were a couple of bikes under the awning over the gas pumps both were really getting hammered! I pulled up on the porch of the store under their awning with the building blocking the rain and wind! we all waited out the storm! while I was there I changed into a dry shirt! after about an hour it seemed to blow past! I guess them guardian angles of mine were working over time because if that trooper had not stopped and slowed me down I would most assuredly been over in the oncoming lane when the wind hit me! there was a kid came over from a camp ground across the street he said his tent had blown away in the wind! hell with the storm I could not tell there was a camp ground over there! I decided with the wind there was no telling what was on the road the rest of the way so I went to camp ground and put up my tent! when I got out shit to sleep most of it was wet! it rained hard to get my stuff wet I ride in lots of rain and never have wet gear! |
