Well it is finally
Pawhuska time and this year the weather is not cooperating too well. it is
cloudy and cold in the forecast and since I am so far behind you all know
right after this the weather turned off nice! anyway the temps were to be
in the high 30s low 40's at night and for some reason some will not ride
when it is a little cool! when I headed out on Friday
afternoon it was about 52 out side not cold but cool the ride there was
nice except the head wind up I-35 and side wind on Highway 60 this time I
actually got here This party is
always like a home coming to me because I know almost everyone that comes to
Pawhuska after about 14 years now I showed up the first time in 1993 and
here it is 2007
I know some of the old timers I used to see don't seem to
be there and I wonder if is because they don't sleep on the ground as good
as they once did! Tent camping in the cold is ok when you are young but as
you get older it is harder on you! I know I used to sleep on the ground
with a poncho and military wool blanket and nothing
more. Now I have a tent and a air mattress and a custom made quilt that is
9ft by 9ft it is insulated real tree on the outside and polar fleece on
the inside. I have slept comfortable in it with snow on the
ground! I fold it in half and sleep in between when it is
cold! When its warm I sleep on top with a poncho liner.
Lately when its cold I have taken to

leaving socks on and
putting hot hands in the socks to keep my feet warm. there has
got to be some way for them to sleep off the ground warm! anyway because it
was pretty cool and weather man said cooler by night, the crowd was much
lighter than normal! those that did come came to party! it did give
me a chance to visit a little with some folks I don't normally get to
visit with first I had a little more time and second they did too because
they had time too in between work.

those that came to party did just that
in-spite of the cold they had a little trouble getting girls to get in the
stage show! but there were 5 that braved the cold! they put on a good show
too! they were still a few partiers left when I went to bed about 2
in the morning. I got up on Saturday morning to warming temperatures.
as a matter of fact it warmed up some in after I went to bed because I got
warm about an hour after I laid down! when I got up I headed over to CMA
for coffee but ended up getting breakfast too! then I went back to camp
and got my camera and started taking a few pic working my way down to the
stage area to catch the flag raising! this time Smoker was there to see it
for himself but I took the pictures for all the GI's that make it so we
can do what we do! After the flag raising
