Wow
it has taken me long enough to get to this but I will tell you I remember
it was 108deg when I left the house to head north east! it was about 130
in the afternoon when I headed out with all my gear strapped to the
bike to include a tube cooler with water and ice in it on the handle bars.
I made plans to stop at my sisters on the way there and spend the night
mostly because I like to get to the boogie in time to get a good camp site
and if you get there too late you don't get one! I have camped with in 50
feet of the same place since they moved to the new place! the other is, it
is a good excuse to go see my sis! she lives half way there so
anyway! I rolled down I-35 to I-44 then up to tulsa got gas
there by that time I had already drank two bottles of water because of the
heat! the ice in my cooler was melting though and making me a nice swamp
cooler as the hot wind blew across it on the handle bars!

it made a huge difference in how hot I got! once I refilled
my cooler with ice it was back on the road again! at Springfield Mo I had
to stop for gas again then it was on to my sis place out side of Rolla i
got there about 6pm just in time for supper! unloaded the bike and then
went inside I noticed my wiring was dooping so I stuck it back up! where
it belongs, then went inside! enjoyed the visit with my sis for a while
then hit the rack so i could get up the next morning! well i got up
about 7am and had coffee with my sis and reloaded the bike and headed
toward the boogie again!

I didn't quite get
to St Louis when my speedometer quit I thought that sucks because I
couldn't tell how fast I was going and my bike has a way of getting away
from you speed wise on a trip! then I noticed something else my lights
were not working! I pulled over at the next little town called bourbon at
a gas station and topped off my tank and started trying to figure out what
was wrong when I noticed a wire hanging down by my back tire! ah shit! the
clips at hold wiring loom that goes under the finder had come loose
in the heat and let the wires down on the tire! it had chewed thru the
wires or pulled them in two one. well as I was taking my stuff off
the bike and getting my tape and stuff gathered up a worker from the
station came over and handed me a roll of black tape and a small roll of
duck tape too! he said you may need these. we talked as I was splicing the
wires back together. he rode a 2005 road king

he was about 70 years old and he said his wife didn't like
for him to travel too much any more but he got it out for short trips now
and again just to get his head right! well I got all
the wires put back together and started to test every thing! well I know I
had it wired right so when lights didn't work I went looking and found two
fusses blown! the worker told me he would keep an eye on my stuff and
pointed to a hardware store about a half block away! I walked over and
picked up a package of fusses and went back an replaced them then every
thing worked good! I thanked the man for his help as
