Well
now boys and girls the weather man said smooth sailing for this weekend
and this will be a first! in the 7 previous years I have gone to the
boogie I have gotten wet either on the way there or on the way home but
this year they were saying no rain! now let me recap some of how this has
worked my first year it started raining one mile from I-35 heading east on
I-44 and rained all the way to St Louis Mo which is roughly 500
miles! now it was not a hard rain just steady. The next year was
smooth sailing to St Louis but then it hammered me all the way to Tara
Houte Ind. which is about 300 miles! the next year I got hammered for
about 100 miles of southern Mo and just into Okla. I think the next year
it drizzled on me the last 100 or so miles! then the next year I followed
the tornado they blew thru the night before and rained the last 40 miles!
last year I got caught in a late evening storm just out side of St Louis
between St Roberts and Bourbon, I had planned to spend the night there
which was good because St Louis had no power and lots of tree limbs on the
roadway!

you should figure out I'm expecting rain Right! well I
headed out on Wednesday about 1:30 or 2 in the afternoon, nice sunny
day not too hot just a great day for a ride. about 9:30 I was on the other
side of St Louis! just a nice afternoon ride. I got a room and then went
and got something to eat and hit the rack! I split this trip so I get
there just as the gates open 12 noon so I get my preferred camping spot!

I have camped in
the same place since they moved the boogie to the new location. and I
don't like to ride after dark! I
got up about 8am on Friday morning got gas and a cup of coffee and hit the
highway! once again clear skies and nice riding it was great Im
still looking for the rain as turned north on highway 34 Im only 60 some
miles from the boogie and not wet yet I'm thinking Im getting wet on the
way home not on the way there! well I rode into and thru Bedford im
less than 10 miles from being there and I see a drop of water on the wind
shield! three more miles of sprinkles and her it comes one mile of pretty
hard rain the crotch of my pants are wet! it counts. I got two more
showers in the last 3 miles but by the time I turned off the highway onto
road into camp it had stopped! if you have not caught the jist of this
part of the story, this party is worth the ride no
matter!
Now I made my way to the gate and checked in and headed down to my camping
spot across from the games field and set up camp. I had no more finished setting my tent up and airing up my
mattress and stowed my gear with the skies opened up! it rained for about
20 min in which I arranged my gear in the tent got my camera put together
and my head organized and it quit!
I Visited with a couple of the venders I
know while the excess water ran off and then I took my bike and headed up
to what they call party central!
